First: what is the Spozak?
On the other side of our galaxy lies an alien civilization of great antiquity, known as the Empire of 1,000,000 Suns. The Spozak is what they call their arm of the galaxy. To their minds, the Spozak represents all of inhabited space. The Earth and its people, the solar system, and even the stars in our sky lie in the wilderness of the void Beyond the Spozak.
Once humans left the solar system, and learned the secrets of FTL spaceflight, it was discovered that time was not completely linear, but rather a vast and turbulent flow full of eddies and vortices, diverging into parallel streams only to reunite again later. For the convenience of an audience familiar with a linear conception of time, various events have been collected into a timeline. The events in the timeline are not necessarily in the order that they would occur to all observers, and the outcomes of the events vary over the vast depths of trans-dimensional hyperspace.
This time-line is broken up into four historical eras. The first Era (Era-0) encompasses the time between the founding of the Empire of 1,000,000 Suns (abbreviated E1MS) until a point in the near future (at most a few hundred years from now), when most of humanity unites to form the Planetary League. Era-1 lasts from the founding of the Planetary League until the conquest of Earth at the end of the Great Reckoning, marking the rise of the Holy Empire of Man. Era-2 starts with the fall of Earth, and ends with the Emperor's defeat at the end of the War of Galactic Unification. The Last Era, Era-3, starts at the end of the War of Galactic Unification, and carries on indefinitely into the future, presumably until the end of the Galactic Republic.
Era 0
Long ago, before the dawn of humanity, a space-faring civilization rose up on the other side of the galaxy. The Empire of 1,000,000 Suns conquered its neighbors, and then settled into a state of stagnation, bound by a highly traditional culture. The Empire was based on a caste system, and intent on maintaining social stability.
All this changed with the onset of the 1,000 Years War, when the robots rose in rebellion, led by the mysterious Troniac, a planet-sized supercomputer worshiped as a god by many robots. The war ended when Troniac was defeated by General Zarlok, a robot designed and built solely for that purpose. The war caused massive social and economic upheavals, the government changed to a constitutional monarchy, and numerous small states broke away.
On the other side of the galaxy, the human race has developed into a technological society.
Era 1
Sometime in the next century or so, life on Earth becomes very harsh. The climate changes, new diseases crop up, wars are fought over scarce resources, and an economic meltdown makes life miserable. In the midst of the turmoil, science and technology continue to advance. Private industry joins governments in the exploration and exploitation of outer space. The main results are that there is an unprecedented diaspora as people leave the Earth to settle in space, and that the majority of humanity ends up joining together to form the Planetary League.
The Planetary League starts out as an idealistic organization devoted the peaceful exploration of space, and the preservation of humanity. As time goes by, the Planetary League comes into contact (sometimes hostile) with the break-away states. The idealism gradually fades, and corruption and malaise quietly take its place.
When the Planetary League finally makes contact with the E1MS, it precipitates the rise of the Holy Empire of Man, and the end of Era-1 in the fires of the Great Reckoning.
Era 2
Era-2 begins with the end of the conflict known as the Great Reckoning, and is an era of ceaseless war. The Great Reckoning begins with the coronation of the Emperor of the Holy Empire of Man, and concludes with the conquest of Earth by the same Emperor. After the Great Reckoning, the Empire consolidates its power, and then begins the War of the Empires, during which the Holy Empire of Man (abbreviated HEM) defeats the E1MS, leaving it shattered. Some time after this, Troniac returns, and with the aid of most of the robots in the galaxy does battle with the HEM in the War of the Gods. The HEM wins the War of the Gods, but only at great cost. The HEM continues for some time after this, but it is in decline. Era-2 ends with the War of Galactic Unification, which establishes the Galactic Republic.
Era 3
Era-3 begins with the final defeat of the HEM by the Galactic Republic. The Galactic Republic then unites the inhabitants of the galaxy in a shared mind, known as the Galactic Consciousness. Era-3 continues on throughout the history of the Galactic Republic, marking an era of peace, prosperity and achievement for the galaxy.
